Elbehafen LNG – Marine Service confirmed as project partner.

20th January 2023

To strengthen an independent energy supply in Germany, Brunsbüttel will receive a floating LNG import terminal, a so-called FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit), chartered by RWE on behalf and in the name of the German government. This FSRU can be used to import additional gas for Germany’s energy supply. In a single discharge operation, the 300-meter-long ship is capable of receiving up to 170,000 cubic meters of LNG from tankers, regasifying the LNG on board and then feeding it into the German gas grid.

The operator of this floating LNG import terminal is Elbehafen LNG GmbH, which was established as a project joint venture company. Marine Service GmbH is proud to be a partner in this joint venture.

Marine Service GmbH supports the project with technical know-how for, among others

  • the necessary upgrading of the pier

  • the required adjustments to the FSRU

  • the LPG transfer

  • technical and nautical measures for the interim solution until the new jetty is commissioned.

The FSRU will now start its operations in Brunsbüttel Elbehafen, which is owned and operated by Brunsbüttel Ports GmbH.
