DESPITE CORONA: LNG Fuel Gas Supply System for “Mardi Gras” successfully installed.

18th December 2020

The Hamburg-based company Marine Service GmbH has successfully installed the LNG Fuel Gas Supply System on the “Mardi Gras”. Carnival Cruise Line’s largest ship to date (5,200 passengers) will be the first US cruise ship to be powered entirely by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and will be used primarily in the Caribbean.

LNG is currently the most environmentally friendly ship fuel with the lowest emission values.

Marine Service GmbH was commissioned with the design and delivery of the gas supply system. The main components of the gas system supplied by Marine Service GmbH are LNG pumps, gas compressors, vaporisers, cryogenic valves and superheaters, as well as the glycol water modules that use the waste heat from the main engines and feed it to the vaporisers and superheaters to prepare the fuel. In addition, all electrical components including the pneumatic interfaces and the PLC-controlled automation system are part of the Marine Service GmbH scope of supply. The system is designed in such a way that in the event of a component failure, the redundancy is so high that gas operation is still possible and safe. Marine Service GmbH prepared the operating instructions and provided training for the ship’s crew and the shipyard employees who operated the LNG system during commissioning and testing.
